How it's made

We don't measure anything ourselves.

Every number on your print comes from an archive that's been quietly running for decades, kept by people whose whole job is getting it right. All we do is find your night in it.

Where the numbers come from

Public archives, freely checkable.

  • Aurora and eclipse prints use solar wind readings from NASA's ACE satellite, which sits about 1.5 million kilometres out and has been watching the sun since 1997.
  • Summit prints use the Copernicus elevation model, a survey of the shape of the Earth's surface at 30-metre resolution, along with route and mapping data.
  • Tidal prints use [SOURCE].

The source is printed in small type along the bottom edge of every piece, so anybody who fancies looking it up can go and check us.

What happens after you order

Four steps, and one of them might involve an email from us.

You tell us when and where. Your details go through exactly as you've typed them — we don't amend or interpret anything, which is why it's worth checking your spelling before you order.

We pull the readings. The archive for your date is retrieved and laid into the chart format for that range.

We check it against the source. If the record turns out to be patchy — it happens occasionally, more so with older dates — we'll email you before anything is printed and let you decide what to do.

Then it's printed and packed. On 200gsm uncoated matte stock, checked, and sent out flat — or already inside its frame, if you've ordered one.

Printing

Designed in Cornwall, printed close to you.

The charts are designed and set here. The printing itself is done by a network of print partners, and your order goes to whichever one is nearest to your delivery address.

It means a shorter journey, a smaller footprint and a faster arrival than posting everything from one corner of the country — and the paper, inks and finish are the same wherever it's made.
